Hosting a Course in the Workplace

The Workplace Continuing Education Program provides ease of access to valuable and required Continuous Professional Learning for Registered Professional Planners.

All of the courses currently offered by OPPI can be delivered in the workplace. For hosting details specific to each, please see the course information below.

1. What does the course cover?

Join us for this one-day course and learn to apply key concepts of project management in a variety of hands-on group activities with a real-world scenario. It is important to note that this course is a continuation of Project Management for Planners course. It is not a more advanced course on project management.
 
At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the key concepts of project planning
  • Create a project charter
  • Relate specific concepts required for development a project plan
  • Determine project risks and possible management techniques
  • Use a variety of project management templates and tools
Although previous participation in the Project Management for Planners course is encouraged, it is not a prerequisite.

2. Who do I contact to make the arrangements?

Administrative arrangements for the course are made through OPPI. Contact Miriam Salazar Véjar, 416-483-1873 ext. 2316. Scheduling arrangements are made directly with the Pathways Training & e-Learning, who facilitates this course on behalf of OPPI.

3. How much does it cost?

OPPI will invoice your office $175 per registrant for the one time use of the materials. Each registrant receives access to a digital workbook containing course materials, and other resources as provided by the instructor. Those attending also receive a digital certificate via email from OPPI, confirming their participation in the course. Please note that OPPI does not provide printed versions of either the course workbooks or certificates.

The instructor will invoice your office $1,600 as the instruction fee plus associated expenses such as travel and accommodation if applicable.

HST is extra on all the above amounts.

The maximum size for this course is 20 persons.

4. What are the responsibilities of the workplace provider?

The workplace is responsible for the following:

  • Suitable venue;
  • All refreshments for morning and afternoon breaks and lunch if applicable;
  • Screen and PowerPoint projector;
  • Designating a contact person.
  • Network (wifi) access

At least two weeks before the day of the course, the contact person will provide OPPI with a list of persons attending. OPPI will prepare digital certificates to be distributed after completion of the course. Please note that OPPI does not provide printed resources for course registrants. Instead, you will be provided with digital resources approximately two weeks before the commencement of the course and are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet with you on the day of the event.

This one-day course is for the professional planner who are in a leadership role, a partner in a private firm, or managing others. You will have the opportunity to practice techniques and develop skills to both manage and lead others effectively. All practice activities are conducted in small groups.
 
At the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Understand the responsibilities of a manager and leader
  • Apply methods of communication to drive trust
  • Apply methods of performance management in your professional life
  • Understand some fundamentals of human resources

  • Suitable training venue (one large room for day one plus a second smaller break-out room for day two);

  • Two flipchart stands (with firm back board) and flipchart paper;
  • Assorted flipchart markers and two rolls of masking tape;
  • Designating a contact person.
