Volunteer with OPPI

Our volunteers make all the difference

While OPPI works to serve its members to the best of its ability and strives to represent Ontario’s planning professionals with a strong, unified voice, our members are pivotal in taking an on-the-ground approach to further supporting the profession and communicating its value in our communities. OPPI needs you, your time, and your expertise, to better the planning profession in Ontario.

Volunteer Applications

Members contribute in many ways including working together with OPPI staff on various programs and initaitives with an overall goal to support our strategic plan and OPPI Council governance responsibilities.

Volunteer Opportunities

These program committees work with staff to help deliver OPPI programs.

Government & Public Relations (GPR) Committee
The OPPI Government & Public Relations (GPR) Committee is managed by the Executive Director and the Director of Marketing & Communications. This committee is responsible for advising OPPI staff on government legislation, policy, and regulation and on OPPI communications and media relations strategies in a proactive and/or reactive manner.

Planning Knowledge Exchange (PKE) Committee
The committee works together to generate curriculum ideas for OPPI’s educational offerings.  Their main focus is developing programming for the annual conference; however, they are also involved with brainstorming ideas for workshops, webinars, blog posts, and Y Magazine articles.  Committee members are cultivated for their insight, knowledge, best practices, and opinions.  On average, the committee meets once a month. Most meetings are virtual, but there are up to 2 meetings in-person a year.

Career Path Program Committee (CPPC)
The CPPC collaborates to develop and deliver initiatives such as webinars, networking and social events, and contributions to student and candidate newsletters. Through these efforts, the committee supports students, pre-candidates, and candidates as they progress toward becoming Registered Professional Planners (RPPs).

District Leadership Teams (DLTs)
District team leaders implement a program of Continuous Professional Learning (CPL), share planning knowledge and provide education in area-specific issues. As such, DLTs organize social and educational events in their District for planners and students to connect, network, and learn about their local communities and the planning profession.

District Summit & DLT Meetings
The summits are an opportunity to share knowledge, exchange leading practices, and undertake training and development as a team. The summit is comprised of District team leaders who meet in-person twice annually. In addition, DLT meet bi-monthly virtually with OPPI Education & Events staff.
