This is more than a rebrand. It is a statement about the role of Registered Professional Planners (RPPs) and why their work matters now more than ever.
From housing and transit to climate resilience, economic growth, and complete communities, planners are helping shape the places where Ontarians live, work, learn, and connect. As the pressures facing communities become more complex, the need for thoughtful, future-focused planning has never been greater. OPPI’s new brand is intended to meet that moment.
The rebrand signals a clear ambition for OPPI’s future – one that is bolder in advocacy, stronger in leadership, and more confident in championing the value of RPPs across the province.
With its previous logo in place since the mid-1980s, the change is both timely and symbolic. OPPI Council recognized that, to reach the next generation of planners, elevate awareness of the RPP designation, and better represent the profession’s impact today, it was time for a brand that looked forward.
“Visual storytelling matters because it shapes how people see us before a single word is spoken,” said Susan Wiggins, Executive Director of OPPI. “This new brand is not simply about design. It is about identity, momentum, and visibility. It reflects a profession that is evolving, a community that is ambitious, and an organization that is ready to lead with confidence.”
Developed in partnership with Key Gordon, the new brand honours OPPI’s legacy while presenting a more contemporary and compelling expression of the organization today. It is designed to signal clarity, relevance, and leadership in a world where planning is increasingly central to the public conversation. Each colour nods to a core facet of the profession, including conservation and sustainability, community planning and accessibility, infrastructure, and the built environment.
As part of this broader renewal, OPPI is also introducing a new vision, mission, and tagline
that better reflect the profession and the organization. Together with the new brand, they create stronger alignment between how OPPI looks, what it stands for, and where it is headed. They also more clearly express OPPI’s commitment to the public interest, professional excellence, a strong planning community, and the importance of supporting planners in a rapidly changing environment.
Vision
A strong and connected planning profession advancing inclusive and sustainable communities.
Mission
OPPI advances and advocates for Registered Professional Planners, acting in the public interest, by fostering professional excellence, strengthening the planning community, and sharing knowledge to support continuous learning and growth.
Tagline
Vibrant communities for everyone? We’re planning on it.
“Council saw this as an important opportunity to match our visual identity with the strength of our purpose,” said Andria Leigh, OPPI Council Chair. “Planning touches every part of daily life, yet too often its value is not fully seen or understood. This new brand, together with our renewed vision, mission, and tagline, helps express that more clearly. It reflects the energy of the profession, the importance of the RPP designation, and our belief that planners must be at the centre of building Ontario’s future.”
OPPI’s new brand is both a celebration of the profession and a powerful statement about the role planning plays in shaping Ontario’s future.
