Authors of Understanding Vision Zero and the Transformation of Road Safety

Sibel Sarper is an Assistant Planner in the Cycling Infrastructure & Programs Unit at the City of Toronto. In her role, she has led the delivery of the Toronto Cycling App and bikeway trail projects to bridge gaps in the city-wide multi-use trail network. She has a strong GIS analysis and modelling background which is used to take data-driven approaches to help support bikeway planning and Vision Zero initiatives. Sibel holds a Master of Science in Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning from HafenCity University in Hamburg, Germany and a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. Sibel is an avid traveller, cyclist and motorcycle rider.

Jared is Executive Director of Cycle Toronto and leads a diverse team of staff and volunteers to transform Toronto into a bicycle-friendly city. He developed innovative campaigns to build bike lanes on Bloor St, Richmond St and Adelaide St and double municipal funding for cycling infrastructure from $8 million to $16 million per year. Prior to joining Cycle Toronto, Jared worked for 8-80 Cities and helped to establish the College of Sustainability at Dalhousie University. Jared holds an MA in International Development from Dalhousie University and has bicycled across Canada.

Brad Bradford is Toronto City Councillor for Ward 19, Beaches-East York. Brad believes that as our City grows and prospers we must work hard to make sure that the benefits are felt by everyone. By bringing a pragmatic, non-partisan approach to local government, Brad supports community-led change throughout the Beaches East-York community and across the City.

At City Hall, Brad serves as the Vice-Chair of the Budget Committee, a Commissioner on the TTC Board and as a member of the Planning and Housing Committee. With experience as an urban planner in Toronto’s Chief Planner’s Office, he has a passion for addressing local issues, advocating for those typically left out of the process and making neighbourhoods more accessible. His priorities are to make our roads safer, deliver the City’s relief line, and revitalize our main streets.
