HOW THE PRACTICE WORKS

Most planning consulting is sold by the hour, which means the client learns the cost after the fact and the consultant carries no risk on scope. Permit.Land works the other way. Scope and fee are agreed in writing before any work begins, and the fee does not move. Clients deal with one senior planner from the first call through to a decision rather than being handed to a rotating project team, and files start in days rather than weeks.

ABOUT MATTHEW KRUGER, MCIP, RPP

Matthew spent nearly a decade on the development side before founding the practice, in Director-level planning and development roles at SmartCentres REIT and Tenblock. His files have carried more than 20 million square feet of gross floor area and over 10,000 residential units through the municipal process, across greenfield subdivisions, mixed-use intensification, employment lands and small-lot residential.

That background shapes how the work is done. A submission is read by staff looking for specific things, and a decade on the applicant side of the table is the difference between a report that is technically complete and one that answers the objection before it is raised.

Matthew is a full member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners, and carries professional liability insurance.
