World Town Planning Day

World Town Planning Day banner

Each year on November 8, planners in over 30 countries celebrate World Town Planning Day (WTPD), an international day celebrating the accomplishments of planners and their contributions to their communities.  A practice that began in 1949, WTPD is a day when planners can host and engage in activities that raise awareness about the importance of good planning.

For 2025, OPPI’s Southwest District Chair, Kevin Alexander, RPP, submitted an application to the City of Windsor requesting a proclamation to recognize November 8, 2025, as World Town Planning Day. The application was approved, officially acknowledging the important role of planning in shaping communities.

See the Proclamation for full details.

We encourage our members to reach out to local leaders and help bring a World Town Planning Day proclamation to life in their communities.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANNING IN ONTARIO

On an exponential scale, the planning landscape is changing dramatically. Planning in Ontario has far-reaching implications for the future of our communities; decision-makers have many choices to make and resources have never been scarcer. RPPs bring the ability and expertise to help inform choices and inspire communities. Bringing awareness and celebrating the role of the planner is vital in continuing to shape great communities.
