Basadinaa Experience

Basadinaa Experience

On June 12, 2026, Hamilton Conservation Authority staff led 22 attendees on a guided hike through the Dundas Valley Conservation Area to learn more about the installation of a new Indigenous-led trail signage journey called the Basadinaa Experience.  Choosing the Dundas Valley Conservation Area for the signage was intentional as the Main Loop trail is 3.4 km long and meanders through Territory No. 3 and is known as a major portage route for the first people’s in this area. Hike attendees learned about the selection process for the sign content and the stories captured within each sign, why 13 signs were chosen (13 lunar moons and scales on a turtles back…!),  the artistic journey and selection of artist Kyle Joedicke, working with Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation and Six Nations of the Grand River and the challenge of working within funding timelines.

The signage journey would not have been possible without the sharing of knowledge from Elders and Community leaders from the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation and Six Nations of the Grand River.

For those interested in seeing the Basadinaa Experience in person, you can go to the Main Loop Trail at Dundas Valley Conservation Area, learn more.

Having a litte fomo for this beauty of a photo? Come out to a district event then!
