Competency Tree

OPPI members embark on ongoing professional growth and development to stay properly equipped to best guide decision makers along the better informed path to inspired communities in the public interest. OPPI supports members through Continuous Professional Learning (CPL), in which members develop the knowledge and skills required for practice by professional planners within two realms: Functional and Enabling Competencies.

Professional planners have different CPL needs depending on where they are in their career and geographic location. The Core Competencies should be utilized as a guide for focusing your lifelong professional development in the areas where it is required. You can also utilize OPPI's Learning Path tool to plan your learning goals each year.

Explore the Core Competency Tree below to learn more about each competency required of planners, and if you are a planner, use it as your guide for growth.
