Non-Member Public Interest Representative for Council
OPPI is seeking a non-planner to fill a volunteer Council position (two-year term). Our public member will offer an external perspective on the deliberations of OPPI Council enhancing transparency and ensuring the interest of the broader public is paramount.
We strongly encourage applications from members of Indigenous and racialized communities and all equity-deserving groups including women, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ2+ communities.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be Ontario residents with a minimum of seven years of experience in a field other than planning. They will have some knowledge of planning and its dynamics and a general understanding of the governance and management processes of a professional association.
Candidates should be motivated individuals, who can effectively collaborate with Council, committee members, and staff. They should be committed to excellence in governance, public accountability, and practitioner competence, and possess professional acumen, foresight, and creativity.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates must be familiar with the goals and objectives of OPPI. Council members must attend four to six scheduled meetings annually, participate in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and OPPI conference, as well as attend workshops focusing on leadership skill building, governance, and strategic planning. Council members will discuss and voice an objective opinion concerning agenda topics, and undertake assignments as requested by the OPPI President.
