Meet the esteemed panel of judges for OPPI's 2024 PlanON Awards, a group of distinguished professionals bringing a wealth of expertise and a diverse range of perspectives to the evaluation process.

Kevin Alexander, MCIP, RPP

Ferenaz-Raheem-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgFerenaz is a Senior Environmental Planner at Stantec with 13 years’ experience. She has a Spec. Hons. B.A. in Urban Studies and Master’s in Environmental Studies with specialization in Urban Land Use & Transportation Planning from York University. Her experience includes leading Environmental Assessments, Environmental Management Systems, and obtaining environmental regulatory approvals. As an engagement specialist, Ferenaz has developed a range of public and Indigenous consultation programs which include tailored communication for effective, accessible delivery. Ferenaz also oversees corporate community improvement initiatives and is the recipient of various community awards working to improve the quality of life of deserving communities.

Marianne cassin, MCIP, RPP

Ms. Cassin chaired the Planning Knowledge Exchange Committee for several years. She recently retired from the City of Mississauga and is now in private practice. 

Karen chapple, ph.d

Brandon-Sloan-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgKaren Chapple, Ph.D., is Director of the School of Cities and Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto. Chapple studies inequalities in the planning, development, and governance of cities and regions throughout the Americas. Her most recent book is Transit-Oriented Displacement or Community Dividends? Understanding the Effects of Smarter Growth on Communities (with Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris, MIT Press, 2019). Chapple received the 2023 Regional Studies Association’s Sir Peter Hall Award for Lifetime Contribution to the Field, and is a Professor Emerita of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, where she served as department chair. She holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Columbia University, an M.S.C.R.P from the Pratt Institute, and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley.

Ann Joyner, MES, FCIP, RPP

Anne-M-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgAnn is an experienced planning consultant focused on multi-disciplinary projects in Canada and internationally. She has been the Planner in Residence for the University of Waterloo and a planning instructor at York University.  Leadership roles include as a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Chair of the CIP College of Fellows, Co-Chair of the Toronto Urban Land Institute (ULI)/Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) and Management Committee and member of the Board of Directors and other management roles at Dillon Consulting.  More recently she spent two months in Nepal delivering education institutes for teachers in association with Laurier University.

Gregg Lintern, MCIP, RPP

He joined the former City of Toronto in 1989 and has held senior management positions in City Planning since 2005, serving as Toronto’s Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning from 2017 to 2023. As Chief Planner for the City of Toronto, Gregg was committed to leading the City Planning Division and making Toronto more liveable, inclusive and adapted for all people.  His priorities included meaningfully responding to the housing supply and affordability crisis, growing the transit network across the entire City, proactively planning complete and well-designed communities to support population and employment growth while ensuring integrated climate adaptation. Throughout all of this, responding to constant legislative change and adapting and modernizing planning services while building up the City Planning team was a central focus.

Jeanhy Shim

Nicole-Hanson-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgJeanhy Shim is a passionate city building entrepreneur and changemaker. For over 30 years, she has provided strategic residential and mixed-use development, execution and advisory services to developers in the GTA and Ontario. Jeanhy is also founder of Crosswalk Communities – a new, non-profit, affordable rental housing development company, and Divercities – a new, affordable commercial real estate development advisory firm. She also teaches a graduate-level course on affordable housing development at the University of Toronto, where she also serves on the School of Cities’ Advisory Board. Jeanhy holds a BA from McGill University and a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Ron shishido, FCIP, RPP (ret.)

Lee-Anne-Doyle-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgRon Shishido, RPP, FCIP is a Partner Emeritus at Dillon and has more than 40 years of experience in the fields of land use planning, growth management and policy development. He has undertaken numerous planning studies across Ontario, Canada, and internationally for public and private sector clients. His projects included managing multi-disciplinary teams featuring multi-faceted analyses including population, employment, housing, industrial, commercial, parks/open space and tourism development, socio-economic, financial and environmental impacts, transportation, infrastructure, resource management and agricultural needs, paired with extensive public consultation. Ron is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners. He is a past President of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute Planners and held positions on the Commonwealth Association of Planners and Global Planers Network boards. Ron is continuing to serve the planning profession through his active participation on the Ontario Professional Planners Institute - Planning Issues Strategy Group and planning students through his work on the Canadian Institute of Planners – Planning Students Trust Fund Board where he is focusing on the development of new scholarships and bursaries for planning students from the BIPOC and other disadvantaged communities.

Keisha st. louis-mcBurnie

Danny-Roy-2023-Juror-Profile.jpgKeisha St. Louis-McBurnie is a planner, researcher and writer practicing in Toronto, Ontario.Her work focuses on understanding and documenting neighbourhood change in diverse and equity-deserving communities across the Greater Toronto Area, and explores alternative, value-driven approaches to community planning. She is currently an Associate at Urban Strategies Inc. and holds a Master of Science in Planning from the University of Toronto. In 2020, Keisha served on OPPI’s Anti-Black Racism in Planning Task Force and is a founding member of the Black Planners and Urbanists Association(BPUA). As an author of leading research and a Sessional Instructor in the University’s Daniels Faculty, Keisha demonstrates exceptional thought leadership.
