OPPI Executive director mary ann rangam to retire
Please join me, OPPI Council and Staff, in congratulating Executive Director Mary Ann Rangam on her upcoming retirement in mid-2020.
This is a significant milestone for OPPI and an exciting new chapter for Mary Ann. Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence. I know Council, Staff and the membership will miss Mary Ann dearly.
For the past 20 years, Mary Ann has served OPPI as its Executive Director. Starting in 1999 with the launch of OPPI’s Millennial Strategy, she has thoughtfully guided the Institute through its evolution to become the high performing organization it now is. Her strategic leadership has guided scores of volunteers and her staff team in creating organizational and financial stability, in advancing professional standards, in strengthening member engagement district-wide, in forging strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations, in promoting the role and value of RPPs in Ontario's planning system, and setting the organization up for future success.
As a result of Mary Ann’s decision, OPPI Council has initiated a process to find a new Executive Director. OPPI has selected The Portage Group (TPG) to assist with the process of recruitment. TPG has extensive experience working with associations including lawyers, engineers, health care professionals, among others. They understand self-regulating organizations and can offer excellent insight to the issues and trends facing membership associations like OPPI.
A search committee of Council has been formed to support the search and the recommendation of a preferred candidate, and is comprised of the following members:
Justine Giancola, RPP (President)
Paul Lowes, RPP (President Elect)
Claire Basinski, RPP (Secretary Treasurer)
Bruce Curtis, RPP (Council Director)
Andria Leigh, RPP (Council Director)
Jason Ferrigan, RPP (OPPI Past President)
In the coming weeks, TPG will interview Council, Staff and OPPI stakeholders for input to define the job requirements and candidate profile for our next Executive Director. We anticipate this work being completed before the end of the year so the search can begin in the new year.
Please join me in thanking Mary Ann for her many years of leadership and dedication to the planning profession. We will have more news to share with the membership as the search is underway. I welcome your questions by email at
president@ontarioplanners.ca
and look forward to your support and assistance during this transition.
Justine Giancola, RPP
President, Ontario Professional Planners Institute
