City of Toronto Proclaims October 1 as RPP Day
The Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is pleased to announce the City of Toronto has proclaimed October 1, 2019 as Registered Professional Planner (RPP) Day. The announcement kicked-off OPPI19: Beyond25, OPPI’s three-day annual educational and networking event for RPPs and allied professions in Ontario. OPPI would like to thank Ward 19 Beaches-East York Councillor, Brad Bradford, for delivering welcome remarks and the proclamation on behalf of Mayor John Tory and the City of Toronto.
We are pleased that the City of Toronto is recognizing the contributions of our members and the importance of the role of planning to the City. OPPI members are the experts and professionals specifically educated, trained and ethically committed to informing and guiding the choices made by elected officials, decision-makers and the public to inspire communities across Toronto and Ontario in the public interest.
This proclamation helps bring awareness to the public of the important role RPPs have in the building and development of the City of Toronto as a world-class city and economic hub. This includes some of the most significant land use projects in Toronto over the past 25 years, including the redevelopment of Toronto’s waterfront, expansion of TTC transit, creation of public spaces such as Yonge-Dundas Square, The Bentway and the Distillery District, the creation of neighbourhoods such as Liberty Village, City Place, East Bayfront and Quayside, and ambitious future plans such as the Rail Deck Park.
In addition to the proclamation, this year marks the 25
th
anniversary of the RPP designation in Ontario, and OPPI will celebrate this milestone at its annual conference from October 1-3, 2019 at the Beanfield Centre in Toronto. OPPI is facing change head on and guiding Ontario into the next quarter century by exploring the key issues that reach beyond borders - Uneven Growth, Climate Change and Technology.
