Building Bridges: Agricultural Participation in Nutrient Management and Source Water Protection

This session will focus on a collaborative initiative among the agriculture sector, environmental organizations and the provincial government concerning non-point source water pollution. Within the context of managing compliance with the Nutrient Management Act and the Clean Water Act, the presenters will highlight a successful collaboration among the Ontario Farm Environment Coalition, the Canadian Environmental Law Association, a coalition of other environmental organizations, and the provincial ministries of agriculture, farms and rural affairs and the environment and climate change. The result was a compromise satisfactory to all parties.
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Gaining knowledge about the Nutrient Management Act and the Clean Water Act.
  • Understanding that collaborative planning requires leadership that can bridge conflicting interests.
  • Understanding that communities of interest require focus, a clear understanding of the issues and their significance and a willingness to give and take in the process of solution building.

Speakers
