Conference 2017

Building Resilient Infrastructure and Low-Carbon Communities in the Greater Golden Horseshoe

October 03, 2017

4:00pm-5:00pm

Panel

The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, the Greenbelt Plan, the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and the Niagara Escarpment Plan work together to manage growth, build complete communities, curb sprawl and protect the natural environment. In May 2017 the province released updates to these plans, the result of a co-ordinated review that began in 2015.

Guided by a moderator, panelists will discuss new provincial policies, informed by best practices for infrastructure resiliency, and how growth planning can help mitigate long-term climate change. This session highlights policies on:

  • The development of public transportation
  • Promoting green infrastructure and low impact development
  • Options for safe active transportation
  • Tools to minimize land consumption through compact built form as Ontario moves towards low-carbon communities
