Wetlands are often recognized for their flood control value. Ducks Unlimited Canada, in partnership with Credit Valley Conservation, has undertaken new research to better understand the role of wetlands in storing and slowing flood waters in an urban/rural watershed. This session will feature findings from the research that can help inform climate change adaptation actions and investments.
Learning Objectives:
-
Understanding the role of wetlands in enhancing infrastructure resiliency to flooding and other forms of extreme weather, and the co-benefits of wetland conservation.
-
Understanding how natural infrastructure, such as wetlands, can complement traditional grey infrastructure related to water.
-
Gaining knowledge about new approaches involving natural heritage systems / natural infrastructure planning to improve infrastructure and community resiliency.
