IK1: Are property rights human rights? Reducing inequalities for Indigenous women with the First Nations Land Management Act.

October 05, 2017

12:15pm - 12:30pm

Indigenous communities are often perceived as employing only communal forms of land ownership without individual land use rights. This is an oversimplified view of land management and tenures in Indigenous communities.  This session will outline on-reserve Indigenous property rights with a focus around how Indigenous women' s rights are changing as a result of  the First Nations Land Management Act (FNLMA).
