IK3: Breaking Down Farmland “Red Tape” Guiding Farmers Through Planning Applications

October 05, 2017

12:55pm - 1:10pm

Student Ignite

The session will focus on my major research project for the University of Guelph and the
Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance. In the session I will speak about barriers
faced by farmers in the Golden Horseshoe. I will speak about how these barriers have
been addressed to date, and how to develop future approaches.

Learning Objectives:

  • Farmers in the Golden Horseshoe face considerable planning-related barriers.
  • Addressing these barriers is difficult for farmers for a medley of reasons – planners should help!
  • How planning intersects with agriculture, including: a bit of history, common applications, zoning, and planner-farmer interaction.
