405: Planning with Public Health: How Collaborative Healthy Built Environment Program Planning Achieve Results

October 01, 2019

4:00PM - 5:00PM

Recent changes to the Ontario Public Health Standards include the requirement for healthy built environment (HBE) considerations within the health promotion/protection mandate of health units. While collaborating with planners is not new, many public health practitioners in the province find their new role needing guidance, and Ontario-specific resources can support their work. Changes that shall arise from the 2019 Ontario Provincial Budget reductions will include yet-to-be determined impacts on health units' capacity to address and move forward the HBE mandate. This session will highlight and illustrate processes and resultant successes in the LDCP (Locally Driven Collaborative Projects) achieved through evidence-driven, collaborative HBE program planning and action at the public health unit level, as well as delineate various barriers and silos that inhibit results from achieving desired health outcomes.
