604A: The Toronto 2030 Platform – Improving Building Performance in Downtown Toronto Through Better Data and Collaboration

October 02, 2019

2:15PM - 2:45PM

The Toronto 2030 Platform is an online tool created by the Canadian Urban Institute to track building performance and progress towards greenhouse gas reduction targets in downtown Toronto (the 2030 District). The 2030 Platform is designed to help users benchmark their buildings, connect to conservation programs, commit to the District 2030 goals and understand how downtown Toronto is progressing towards reaching emissions reductions targets. Data collected from the platform is being used to inform scenario planning, identify opportunities for district energy and support utility conservation program design, engagement and campaign design. Engagement with the audience will be used to help uncover and identify means of overcoming systemic barriers to greenhouse gas emissions reductions in downtown Toronto. In this session, participants will gain an understanding in how to develop a community-scale analysis of building energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, learn about effective ways to communicate complex emissions data online in simple and engaging ways and get ideas about how to use data to motivate engagement and action around climate change.
