#2GETHER2022
There are few community engagement strategies that lack digital engagement as a key component. This uptake correlates with a significant global increase in social media and online use, which is projected to triple within this decade. As the popularity and application of digital based strategies grow; however, it is critical to consider when, and even if, this approach is always appropriate. Drawing on the International Association for Public Participation’s (IAP2) principles and first-hand experience, this session will critically evaluate how and when digital engagement tools are best employed. This includes reviewing a full range of available tools and a description of best practices for planners seeking contextually appropriate engagement strategies. This session will also provide insight to the future of digital engagement, including immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.
