MW2: York University After the Subway Arrived

October 01, 2019

1:00PM - 5:00PM

In December 2017, the Toronto-York-Spadina Subway Extension opened and included new stations and unprecedented transit service for York University. During the planning and construction of the subway extension, an updated York University Secondary Plan was prepared embracing the growth of the campus on surplus university lands and anticipated Provincial Growth Plan goals to support transit investment and build complete communities. This mobile workshop will show how the plan conserved the modern heritage of York University and structured its new growth. Participants will learn how the City of Toronto balances growth and flexibility, see and understand how some of Ontario’s most beautiful new buildings and campus landscapes came to be and gain an understanding of institutional master planning and partnerships by visiting key areas of the campus, the new subway stations on campus, and interesting developments with sustainable features and technologies around campus.
