606: Prospering with a Stable of Declining Population

October 02, 2019

2:15PM - 3:15PM

While regions and counties in immediate proximity to Toronto are forecast to experience major growth over the next 30 years there are regions in the province that will struggle in the future to retain youth, an aging population and to attract newcomers. They will also struggle to keep schools and hospitals and other essential services open. In all of this uneven growth, however, there is an opportunity for planners to play a leadership role in helping these communities to cope with and build a more encouraging future. Building upon research completed at the University of Guelph, a round-table discussion will take place that will help participants understand the dynamics of growth in Ontario and focus on those communities that are struggling, learn about stratgies that can help communities address concerns and learn about success stories from other communities. In addition, as part of the University of Guelph’s Prospering with a Stable of Decliining Population research project, an accompanying book and toolkit is freely available for participants to take with them.
