MW15:The King Street Transit Pilot Walking Tour

October 03, 2019

10:30AM - 1:30PM

King Street is the heart of the Financial District, has the largest concentration of jobs in Canada, and is Toronto’s busiest surface transit route with a daily ridership of approximately 65,000 people. In November 2017, the City of Toronto and the TTC introduced a bold pilot project giving significantly greater priority to transit riders and active transportation users by imposing restrictions on automobile travel and established all-day curbside uses and public realm program in the curb lane. Transformative action was necessary to unlock King Street’s potential as a transit corridor and vibrant destination. This walking tour will take participants along the King Street Transit Pilot corridor to see and learn more about different components of the project including transit priority initiatives and public realm improvements. Participants will gain insight into how to respond quickly to rapid growth through creative solutions, gain knowledge about pilot project implementation and the benefits of a “lighter, quicker, cheaper” approach and gain knowledge about how to leverage data and technology to facilitate evidence-based transit planning.
