oppi Membership Renewal

The renewal deadline of December 31 has passed.

If you have not yet renewed, contact membership@ontarioplanners.ca.

If you have already downloaded your invoice with the intent to renew, submit payment at your earliest convenience.
By renewing your OPPI membership, you can continue to take advantage of all our member benefits, reinforce the value of the RPP designation, increase awareness of key planning challenges and potential solutions, and promote the value of planning to improve the future of communities in Ontario.

Thank you for your continued commitment and dedication to the planning community. We are committed to continue findings ways to inspire change and enhance your experience as an OPPI member.

Read this page carefully! This year, there are some important changes to the renewal process because of the recent transition to our new database.

WHAT TO KNOW DURING RENEWAL

RENEW ONLINE BY DECEMBER 31

Thanks to OPPI’s new database, renewing your membership online through our renewal wizard will be faster and easier than ever before! You will have the choice to pay for your 2023 membership fees with a credit card online or download your invoice if your employer is paying by direct deposit. View our direct deposit form if your employer is paying for multiple membership renewals at once.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to renew your membership or download your invoice with the intent to renew by December 31 to avoid a lapse in membership and insurance coverage.

LOG YOUR CPL BY JANUARY 31

To thank you for your patience as we transition to our new database, the deadline to log your Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) units has been extended to January 31, 2023. Learn more about CPL

As part of our new database, we have a new user-friendly CPL module that you access through the Members-Only Area.

  1. Log into the Members-Only Area
  2. Your username is the email address associated with your OPPI membership.
  3. The first time you log in, click Forgot Password to set your password.
  4. From the left-side navigation options, click on Record/View CPL Activities.

If your personal circumstances prevented you from completing your CPL requirement this year, contact registrar@ontarioplanners.ca to discuss accommodation options.

HINT: For step-by-step instructions, CIP has prepared some videos on how to access the new member area and how to record your CPL units.

HINT: If you have a surplus of structured learning units (i.e. more than nine) you may add them to the next calendar year. In your Members-Only Area, go to Record/View CPL Activities, and click Add Activities. Select the next calendar year to carry your learning units forward. IMPORTANT: Only structured learning units can be carried forward. Individual and self-directed learning units are limited to nine per calendar year and may not be carried over.

CPL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I carry forward my CPL units?
Unfortunately in our new database, carrying forward CPL units is no longer automatic - but this can be done in a few easy steps. If you have a surplus of structured learning units (i.e. more than nine) you may add them to the next calendar year.

How many CPL units can I enter in a calendar year?
As of right now, the database will only allow you to enter 18 CPL units per calendar year. We're constantly working to improve your member experience, which is why we are in contact with our database provider to remove this limitation going forward. Stay tuned for more information.

How do I edit or delete CPL units?
You can edit or delete individual and self-directed learning units. If you see a pencil icon or a red X icon you may edit or delete that specific entry. At this time, structured learning units are only able to be edited or deleted by OPPI staff. Contact membership@ontarioplanners.ca for more information.

Why don’t I have access to the CPL module?
Some membership categories are not required to log CPL units, including Pre-Candidate, Full Non-Practicing, and Retired members. For that reason, the CPL module may not be visible to you.

MEMBERSHIP FEES INCREASE

For the past three years, OPPI Council has made the decision not to increase membership fees in an effort to support you through the challenges of the pandemic. As we emerge into our new normal, OPPI Council has made the decision to implement a nominal 3% increase to membership fees (excluding students) for 2023. Learn more about membership fees.

INSURANCE FEES & COVERAGE

Last year, OPPI switched to a new broker, BMS Canada Risk Services, to provide you with enhanced insurance coverage options, better education about the various forms of coverage, and more overall value. Last year there was a small increase, but for 2023, we are pleased to share that there will be no increase to insurance fees.  Learn more about insurance.

IMPORTANT: As an RPP, you have a mandatory requirement to carry insurance (optional for Retired and Non-Practicing members). Be sure to renew your membership or download your invoice with the intent to renew by December 31 to avoid a lapse in membership and insurance coverage.

RENEW WITH OPPI & CIP

As part of our commitment to enhance your OPPI member services, we have been working with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) to transition from our old database to a new, shared database. Our new database will provide OPPI members with a much-improved and refined user experience through a simplified, one-stop service for login, invoicing, renewals, and more! Learn more about our new database.

Through the OPPI membership renewal process, you will be able to choose if you also want to renew your membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) directly through OPPI in a single payment

CONSULTANTS DIRECTORY

As a result of OPPI's transition to a new database, a number of member services will be temporarily unavailable. The Consultants Directory is currently under construction as we work towards a new and improved version. For that reason, you will not be able to purchase a listing for your company on the Consultants Directory during this renewal period. Learn more about our new database.

IMPORTANT: When navigating through the renewal wizard, do not select the additional charge for the Consultant’s Directory.  If you do, it will trigger an error message and you will have to restart the renewal wizard process.
