2GETHER conference highlights Indigenous topics

Keeping with the principle nothing about us without us, our 2GETHER conference that just took place on September 21 and September 22, was jampacked with sessions that focused on how planners can better understand the ways in which planning practices have disproportionately disadvantaged Indigenous communities.

Our opening keynote, Wanda Dalla Costa, discussed Indigenous design thinking by walking backwards into the future. As part of her keynote, Wanda also took a moment to praise OPPI for including so much Indigenous content in the conference program and also acknowledged the 2GETHER Marketplace that featured a number of local London vendors including an Indigenous clothing retailer, Antler River Trading Co. The conference also featured sessions that focused on specific Indigenous topics, like supporting Indigenous interests as planners on Indigenous territories and the effects and impact on Indigenous rights. We closed our conference with a meaningful prayer by Velma Noah, a member of the Munsee-Delaware Nation.

OPPI is committed to continue to support this representation as a priority in our education framework.
