Nicholas Kuhl is a second-year Master’s student at the Queen’s School of Urban and Regional Planning, and a member of the OPPI Student Liaison Committee. With an acute interest in planning policy and how it can have wide-ranging and often unintended consequences, he has received SSHRC funding for research into planning for decline in Northern Ontario, and has conducted additional research into expanding regional transit in the Niagara Region, and the social impacts of green roof incentives. His interest in the impacts of green roofs stems from his experiences while on an International Travel Award trip to Eastern Europe and the Benelux countries this past spring, where he found that in many cases, policy planners there are moving away from supporting these kinds of development.
