As cities continue to grow, it is necessary to address liveability alongside this growth. Mitigating the challenges of uneven growth requires applying an equity lens to planning. Growth must be rooted in the premise that everyone has a right to the city, including tangible elements like sunny parks, and less tangible ideas of beauty and vibrancy. As cities intensify through vertical communities, a better understanding of the impact that built form has on invaluable assets like parks and streets will enable development of liveable, complete communities. In this session, participants will learn how to manage and shape growth that responds to local context and the need for social and physical infrastructure to support it, learn about how liveability is measured and quantified in other cities around the world and how iterative testing of potential outcomes of specific policies can influence and change policy direction.
