#2GETHER2022
Within the GTA and Ontario’s major cities, there have been significant investments in major transit system improvements – new higher order transit BRT, LRT and RER lines for example. One of the key arguments behind this investment is improving mobility options and potentially accessibility for society as a whole. Beyond the transportation impacts, there are potential land use and development impacts, especially around Major Transit Station Areas, with an emphasis on mixed use and increased housing density. A central question associated with both transport and land use impacts of this investment concerns which segments of society are truly benefiting. Each of the presenters in this interactive session will provide an overview of the context and central issues in the debate around the social equity dimensions of transit investment, illustrating with local examples and explored through audience discussion.
