Dr. Mercer Clarke is an interdisciplinary scientist who advocates for ecosystem-based approaches to advancing resilience to a changing climate, with a special focus on nature-based solutions in planning and design for sea level rise and severe weather. Both an ecologist and a landscape architect, Colleen has over 35 years experience in the sustainable development of resources and communities through integration and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. In addition to research and application of adaptation strategies for communities throughout Canada and internationally, her portfolio of practice also includes significant roles in environmental audit and impact assessment, watershed, regional and municipal planning, and assessment and recovery of contaminated sites. Currently she is a member of the Advisory table on Thriving Natural Environments for the development of Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy. She also sits as a member of the Board of the Canada Committee for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (CC-IUCN) where she chairs the Committee on Climate Change.
