Michael is one of the leading planners and urban designers in Canada. He is the first landscape architect in history to be elected to be a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners. He is also a former President of the BC Society of Landscape Architects. As President of MVH Urban Planning & Design Inc. in Surrey, British Columbia, he leads a global award-winning consulting firm that has completed large community master planning projects in the United States, Mexico, China, and Russia. Educated in landscape architecture at the University of Guelph and urban design at Harvard, he continues his research and teaching as Adjunct Professor at both Simon Fraser University and Vancouver Island University. Michael has published four books; his most recent 2022 book is Public Realm: The Next Makers Handbook (Tellwell, 2022). Among his many awards, in 2020, he was recognized by the Ontario Society of Landscape Architects with their Research and Innovation Award.
