#2GETHER2022
The impacts of climate change are becoming more apparent and impactful every year. The window for avoiding serious impacts of climate change – heat waves, droughts, floods and storms, rising sea levels and widespread loss of plant and animal species – is shrinking. Like many other Ontario municipalities, the Kawartha Lakes community is geographically dispersed and the local economy is heavily dependent on agriculture. The City of Kawartha Lakes is developing a Healthy Environment Plan to outline a comprehensive strategy to take action on climate change locally. This plan is intended to help the Kawartha Lakes community reduce greenhouse gas emissions and better anticipate and adapt to a changing climate and follows the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) 5 milestone process for greenhouse gas emission reductions. In this session, participants will learn more about the City of Kawartha Lakes’ Healthy Environment Plan and how to develop a greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan, what the PCP 5 milestone process is and learn what types of climate adaptation strategies are appropriate for rural communities.
