Facing change and guiding Ontario into the next quarter century
Chris has a Masters in Urban Planning from McGill University and spent the first 17 years of his Planning Carreer on the West Coast where he worked for the City of Vancouver, District of Langford which is a suburb of Victoria and 12 years as the Director of Planning for the Town of Gibsons of Beachcombers fame. While with the Town of Gibsons Chris wrote a number of award winning plans including the Town's Official Plan and two secondary plans that were based on sustainability. In 2009 the Town of Gibsons was shortlisted for the UN Liveable Communities competition and Chris travelled to the Czech Republic to present the Town of Gibsons submission. The Town won as the most liveable town in the world in the category of under 20,000 population. The Town also won for all sizes of municipalities for "Planning for the future". Chris returned to Ontario in 2010 as the Manager of Planning for the Town of Huntsville where he helped to implement their new sustainability plan. Chris presently works as the Director of Development Services for the City of Kawartha Lakes where he is responsible for four departments including: Planning, Building, Economic Development and GIS. Chris is the champion for the City's Health Environment Plan which follows the Partners for Climate Protection 5 - milestone process for the reduction of community wide GHG emissions. The Healthy Environment Plan also identifies climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. In 2019 Chris will be teaching a course on Urban and Rural Planning at Fleming College
