#2GETHER2022
The Township of Uxbridge is a rural community which has a current population of around 12,000 people. The north half of the Township is located in the Greenbelt and the south part in the Oak Ridges Moraine. The Township is also in the Lake Simcoe Watershed and thus subject to the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan. As such, the community has limited growth, but through a range of innnovative approaches has been able to build a vibrant community with a full range of services including a local hospital, strong downtown and library system, while maintaining a stable financial base. A panel discussion will take place examining the strategies the Township has used to create a strong community including the contribution of volunteers, the establishment of the Township as the Trail Capital of Canada, and the approach to planning including the relationship with the Region of Durham.
