Sean Hertel

Urban Planning Consultant, and Researcher at the City Institute at York University (CITY)

Sean is a professional planner who runs a Toronto-based collaborative planning practice, providing expertise to public and private sector clients on a diverse range of projects. His work is at the forefront of thinking and practices regarding transit-oriented development and the urbanization of regions, and his experience is at the intersection of a range of disciplines; bringing together policy, analysis, design, facilitation, communications, and implementation.

Sean is a frequent guest speaker, student advisor, and critic at university programs in planning and design, and is a speaker at academic and professional symposia. He is affiliated with the City Institute at York University in Toronto, serving as the Coordinator of the Greater Toronto Suburban Working Group – a forum for academics, industry organizations and planning professionals to discuss ways to improve suburban governance processes and outcomes. Sean is a frequent media commentator on urban issues, and contributes to urban affairs publications including Novae Res Urbis.

His projects include leading the land use planning for the 95^th Street Transit Corridor in the southwest Chicago suburbs, and York Region’s Make Rental Happen Challenge.
