201: Wind and Microclimate Issues - A Design Charette for Planners

October 05, 2016

1:30pm - 3:45pm

Pre-registration Required (no cost)

Planners need to consider a number of microclimate factors in the planning and design of a development. In Ontario, wind, shadow and snow/ice conditions can greatly affect the design and site plan in terms of the development’s efficiency and pedestrian or occupant comfort and safety.
This workshop will encourage participants to actively consider microclimate issues, including wind, snow and shadow. Participants will work in groups to design a site plan for a mid-rise, mixed-use development in downtown Hamilton with specific attention on local climate conditions. Each team will have a microclimate expert to assist them. Once complete, teams will present their results and discuss what they have learned.
