206A: Region of Peel’s Walkability Audit Tool: the Story Behind its Development and Implementation

October 05, 2016

1:30pm - 1:45pm

Walking Audit and other tools to evaluate public space are being used throughout North America. These tools encourage more vibrant and walkable communities. However, the existing tools did not fully transfer to the Peel Region context. In response staff created a Walking Audit tool that is applicable to rural, urban and suburban areas, and is consistent with Peel’s Healthy Development Assessment process. It is part of a community-based initiative targeting the neighbourhood level. The session will provide an overview of the tool development process and offer examples of community groups use of the tool while it was being piloted.
