503: Taking C.P.T.E.D. to the “Streets”: A Critical Retrospective by Two C.P.T.E.D. Pioneers

October 06, 2016

10:30am - 11:30am

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design or C.P.T.E.D. practitioners believe that the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, as well as an improvement in quality of life.
This session will draw on the experience of two C.P.T.E.D. pioneers, from the planning and police professions. It will take a critical look at some past and present planning practices that contributed to significant problems at both the site and neighbourhood levels. A number of real life examples, which illustrate C.P.T.E.D. principles and best practices, and a case study will be presented.
