MW6: James Street North Walking Tour – The Evolution of the Public Realm

October 06, 2016

10:30am - 12:45pm

Pre-registration Required (no cost)

This walking tour will take participants through the evolution of James Street North.  The route will begin along King Street East and the redeveloped Gore Park.  The route will then travel down James Street North to the beautiful Liuna Station and new West Harbour GO Station.  Along the way, Glen Norton and Julia van der Laan de Vries will discuss sites that are excellent examples of adaptive re-use, the urban art walk, placemaking, streetscaping and the urban braille sidewalk, the James Street North Art and Super Crawls, the newly implemented wayfinding signs, and important redevelopments and infill projects that have rejuvenated downtown Hamilton and brought investment to the City.  The speakers will provide information on various planning studies along the tour route, including the Downtown Secondary Plan, the Business Improvement Grant Programs, and the James Street Mobility Hub. The tour will end at Liuna Station and participants will be free to explore all that James Street North has to offer as they make their way back to the conference centre.  Don’t forget to wear comfortable walking shoes!
