As we move into challenging economic times, the issues around food security and provision of locally grown healthy and affordable food within urban areas is a concern for planners. Hamilton has risen to meet this challenge and leads the way in implementing local food production through the newly planned and constructed McQuesten Urban Farm in one of its priority neigbourhoods in the heart of an urban food desert. This mobile workshop will take you to the farm and explore the policy, funding and implementation aspects of one of the only newly permitted urban agriculture initiatives in Ontario. The farm is comprised of community accessible growing spaces, an education centre, and can accommodate future natural playgrounds.
