Dr. David Galbraith has been with Royal Botanical Gardens since 1995. Trained as a wildlife biologist, he has focused on partnerships and practical programs encouraging the conservation of biological diversity in real landscapes. In 2006 he was named head of science at RBG. For the past decade David has chaired the development of the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System, a collaboration of nine organizations that own and manage natural areas and park lands at the western end of Lake Ontario, centred around Royal Botanical Gardens' Cootes Paradise nature sanctuary. He serves as an adjunct professor in the biology department of McMaster University and as National Focal Point for Canada for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, a program of the UNEP Convention on Biological Diversity. In 2010 David was named the Dr. Victor Cecilioni Hamilton Environmentalist of the Year for his contributions to the EcoPark System and his national and international conservation leadership.
