Urban Strategies

Melanie is an urban planner and Partner with Urban Strategies Inc. For over 20 years Melanie has been working with communities across North America on city building initiatives in particular related to growth management, transit supportive development and sustainable communities. Melanie is a skilled facilitator who regularly engages diverse audiences in dialogues related to city building, public infrastructure and community vision.  Melanie has worked extensively on Growth Plan and Greenbelt policy, including for the Ontario Growth Secretariat in preparation of the Province’s Places to Grow policy. She has applied her understanding of the Growth Plan directions in preparation of the Region of Durham Growth Strategy and in places such as Bronte and Kerr Villages in Oakville. In Alberta, she has led a Growth Plan Review and Update for the Capital Region Board, as well as a Land Use By-Law for the Region of Wood Buffalo. In 2001, she co-led the Waterloo Region Growth Strategy, and was more recently led the Region’s award-winning Central Transit Corridor Community Building Strategy. She is a regular speaker and blogger on the topics of smart growth and Ontario Land Use Planning Policy
