Michelle is an urban planner with Dillon Consulting Limited. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo Honours Planning program with a Specialization in Land Development, a Diploma in Environmental Assessment, and a Business Minor. She is a Registered Professional Planner and a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Michelle’s experience involves both public and private sector planning roles, including land use planning consulting as well as provincial and local governments. Michelle is keenly interested in understanding and striving to create dynamic public spaces. In the design phase of a project, she actively seeks to establish a critical understanding of the public realm elements and how these may interact with the proposal, to appropriately design a space for its users. This requires vision and often relies on strategic partnership with public and private entities. In her personal travels, she is fascinated with ancient markets, public squares and piazzas that have brought people together for generations, fostering a sense of community and belonging. In her work, Michelle firmly believes that the planner has a key role to play in designing vibrant, active public spaces.
