Senior Project Manager for Project Under Gardiner, Waterfront Toronto

Shannon Baker recently joined Waterfront Toronto as the Senior Project Manager for Project Under Gardiner, a role that will involve her in the transformation of a 1.75km long space under the Gardiner Expressway into valuable public space. As an award winning designer, Shannon brings to her work a collaborative approach that is focussed on creating performance based landscapes. She thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment; her approach straddles related disciplines and brings together creative and strategic thinking. Shannon has worked across Canada and internationally, at a range of scales from large regional planning pieces through to small scale sites, and has been involved in projects from concept through to detailed design. The context of a site is always her point of departure, serving as inspiration and framing all of her work. She believes that good design resonates with people, and its incorporation in urban environments has the power to transform spaces into livable places. Recent projects include the urban design portion of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study and Public Realm Concept for the Lower Yonge Precinct Area for Waterfront Toronto, and the Project Management of the Fort York Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge in Toronto.

In addition to her professional practice, Shannon currently serves on the Editorial Board of Ground Magazine, published by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects, which provides an open forum for the exchange of ideas and information related to the profession of landscape architecture. As an invited studio design critic at the Universities of Guelph, Toronto and Ryerson, she has enjoyed the opportunity to engage students in dialogue about design. She has also been involved in a number of international design competitions, welcoming the opportunity to advance the experimental aspects of her practice in the competition environment.
