200B: Planning Food Systems in the North

October 11, 2018

12:30pm - 1:00pm

The Greater Sudbury Food Strategy, which was launched in November 2017, provides guidance for the growth and resiliency of our local food system, including food production, food access and food waste. Developing a planning document in partnership with community members resulted in a plan that supports and provides momentum and accountability to a variety of organizations. Moving forward, local planners are re-examining zoning, regulations, stakeholder engagement and expectations. Sustainable and healthy food systems help communities adapt to changes in local climate, global uncertainties and economic challenges.  Planning for a resilient food system will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the link between a sustainable food system and planning
  • Identify an example of food planning in their community
  • Understand the importance of effective community engagement
