205A: What’s the story? Oral History as a Tool in Planning for Place.

October 11, 2018

12:00pm - 12:15pm

In recent years, the National Capital Commission has undertaken a series of oral history projects to delve into the living memory of places in its stewardship.  The stories shared through this work have deepened the Commission’s understanding of many sites, and have transformed approaches to planning and site management.  A project is currently under way to gather the stories of a community of cloistered nuns who reside in a monastery that was recently acquired by the NCC.  The monastery will eventually be converted to a new use, and the oral history project is helping to shape that future project.
