300: Predicting and avoiding the negative community impacts of major projects

October 11, 2018

2:00pm - 3:00pm

What happens when major infrastructure and resource projects bring unintended consequences? This session will review a case study adaptive management techniques were used to address unanticipated negative project impacts on the fly. Participants will role play in a choose-your-own-adventure scenario to learn about ways to anticipate negative effects, and address them before they become problematic for the community.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain knowledge about how to predict negative impacts and externalities associated with major projects
  • Understand what adaptive management means for infrastructure and resource projects and how to apply it to the construction and operation phase of projects
  • Gain knowledge about ways to avoid unwanted externalities on your next major project
