303: Community Energy Planning: Small Scale, Big Purpose

October 11, 2018

2:00pm - 3:00pm

This session brings together practitioners with experience in, and aspirations for, community energy planning and implementation in small to mid-sized municipalities. In rural and northern contexts, in particular, plans must meet the challenges of geographically dispersed municipalities and energy-intensive resource-based local economies. These require ingenuity in plan development. The session will provide examples of small municipalities in northeastern Ontario working with the Green Economy North program, and opportunities for participants to share knowledge regarding cultural and creative place-based approaches for assessing energy needs, best practices from data collection and energy baselining, and partnerships and funding opportunities for energy planning.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain knowledge about criteria for context-specific energy planning objectives
  • Generate new ideas for partnerships or member-based programming as input into energy planning processes
  • Gain knowledge about potential funding sources for community energy planning activities
