Cities are enriched more and more by considerable flows of new immigration bringing many different cultures. The same cities are also more aware of its indigenous population, also of different origins. In addition, what about the first settlers, the francophone? We are all working to understand how to integrate those important communities in planning our cities. In the best cases, we adapt predefined planning process by making it "inclusive". Based on experiences, this is far from enough. I will be presenting why and how 10 cities in the world planned and designated cultural or artistic districts as a way to be more than inclusive. I will also present the case of Ottawa’s Vanier district project.
