In 2008, the Francophone  Community of Greater Sudbury held Estates General bringing together representatives from all sectors of activity. The objectives set for the Estates General were as follows :
   -  Draft a vision statement for the Francophone community.
   -  Launch an integrated strategic planning process involving the whole community.

A major initiative, proposed at this event, is La Place des arts, a 30 million dollar arts infrastructure project set to open in 2020.
