400: Sand: The untold story of a scarce resource

October 11, 2018

3:30pm - 4:30pm

Ontario municialities are getting ready for a 30 per cent population growth by 2041. To support this the province has committed $190-billion in infrastructure spending. So we're good, right? Well, not so fast. This session will examine the untold story of a serious resource management issue. Sand, second only to water, is the most used resource in the world. It’s a little known fact that high quality sand is scarce. How we manage it will impact everything from climate change, taxes and our ability to build complete communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand why aggregate resources are vital to growth
  • Understand the balance between resource management and community group interests
